The Xiaomi Mi Max has finally come out after weeks of anticipation, making its debut alongside the brand’s new MIUI 8 OS. True to previous rounds of speculations, the phone is the company’s biggest handset till date with a 6.44-inch screen size.
There’s no word yet on when exactly the Xiaomi Mi Max will be making its way to India. It’s being sold in 3 versions in China. The basic model offers 3GB of RAM and 32GB of ROM and is priced at CNY 1499 (roughly Rs 15000). The second ships with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM at CNY 1699 (approx Rs 17000). The third boasts of 4GB of RAM and 128GB of ROM at CNY 1999 (about Rs 20500).
Note that the first version runs on a 1.8GHz Snapdragon 650 processor and the latter two on a 1.8GHz Snapdragon 652 SoC. All other specs remain constant between the three. Overall, Xiaomi looks like its continuing its formula of offering a decent list of features at a reasonable price. The new smartphone will likely appeal to consumers who want a huge screen but don’t want to pay a bomb for it.
Other than the screen, other top highlights of the all-metal Mi Max include its fingerprint scanner, 4850mAh battery and 16MP camera outfitted with dual-LED flash, an aperture of f/2.0 and PDAF. It’s additionally the first handset by the brand to run on the new MIUI 8 OS out-the-box.

The MIUI 8 China ROM is set to be available for beta registrations from May 16. The testing process is supposed to kick off on June 1. The OS ushers in a number of changes to the UI. For instance, notes can be password or passcode-protected now. A new power saving mode freezes background app activity to save fuel.
