Not that its existence was ever in doubt but the Pixel 8a has finally been spoken about by none other than a Google employee. The phone is expected to debut at this year’s Google I/O conference, the dates of which are still to be announced.

On the company’s IssueTracker site, a representative mentioned the Pixel 8a in response to a question regarding a missing ‘battery information list’ in Google phones that are currently available. The employee claimed that the feature will only be enabled on Pixel 8a models and above.

Last year, the Pixel 7a was launched during the Google I/O keynote, which took place on May 10. That’s the reason why many believe that the same will be the case for the Pixel 8a, though it remains to be seen what dates will be chosen for this year’s developer conference.

From past leaks, we’ve learned that the Pixel 8a will be powered by the Tensor G3 chip that’s onboard the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. It’s also being said that 8GB of RAM will be standard for the device, with 128GB and 256GB being the storage choices.

Its predecessor was the first handset from the a-series to ship with a high refresh rate display and the Pixel 8a will likely continue that tradition. It’s being said to carry a 6.1-inch OLED panel with a 90Hz refresh rate and full HD+ resolution.

In terms of cameras, the Pixel 8a will sport dual shooters on its rear surface. While the main one will be a 64MP unit with a wide lens, the other one will be a 13MP sensor with an ultrawide lens.

We’re expecting to hear a lot more about the Pixel 8a in the coming weeks. We’ll bring you more about it when new information is out.
