Xiaomi Max gets an official launch date, new teaser image

The Xiaomi Max is officially coming out on May 10 at an event held in the Beijing National Convention Centre. The smartphone has been the subject of numerous rumors over the past few weeks.

The flood of speculation began some time ago when the company decided to hold a poll asking fans in China what it should name its upcoming phablet. The Xiaomi Max came out as the out-and-out favorite choice. Since then, speculation has suggested that the phone will go for a gargantuan 6.4-inch screen size.

Xiaomi has now released a brand new image of the upcoming device which depicts it nestled inside a jeans pocket. The image doesn’t give much away, with the accompanying forum post stating that the phone will not feature the Mi logo on the front panel. It also says that the handset is a fresh product line for the firm.

This means that the Max will not be sized at 4.7-inch, 5-inch, 5.15-inch, 5.5-inch or 7.9-inch, instead opting for a different measurement entirely. GizmoChina recently leaked an image of the device which showed off its Mi 5-like design. If accurate, the as-yet unreleased phone will carry a physical home button which will double up as a fingerprint scanner.
