Facebook, WhatsApp most popular applications in India

A new report claims Facebook and WhatsApp are the most popular apps among Indians this year, a position which they’ve held for a long time now. The study goes on to name Truecaller and UC Browser as the other tools in its top-5 list.

The report was conducted by India-based WhichApp, a smartphone app that helps users find new applications by highlighting the ones their friends have. The brand has apparently seen over 20 thousand tools getting discovered and downloaded on its platform, out which Candy Crush, Applock, MX Player, Naukri.com and Flipkart also proved to be amongst the most popular.

PTI reports the ranking was restricted to apps which are utilized at least once a month. The company currently boasts of a 100000-strong user base in India. It aims to cross the 10 million threshold by December 2016.

Back in October 2015, a Connected Life study by research consultancy firm TNS came to a similar conclusion regarding Facebook and WhatsApp. It found that 51% of Indians who go online check the former on a daily basis, while 56% of locals did the same for the latter. The social networking site has over 125 million users in the nation, 2nd to only the US.
