Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 tops Antutu’s list of most popular smartphones in India

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 has managed to beat out its competition and become the most popular smartphone in India, as per a new list put together by Antutu. The benchmarking website has ranked the top 10 Android phones for the first half of 2016 in a number of countries, with interesting results.

According to Antutu’s list, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 is the most popular smartphone in China, India, Vietnam, Malaysia and Russia. However, the phone ranks 5th internationally, lagging behind four Samsung phones namely the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S7.

Chinese brands dominate India’s chart, with the only exception being the South Korean Samsung. The Redmi Note 3 is followed in second place by the OnePlus 2 thanks to a 7.7% share. The latter has received a fair share of criticism after it was launched to great hype, so it’s interesting to see how high the phone ranks in the country.

The next 8 spots are taken up by the LeEco Le1s, OnePlus (version not mentioned), Lenovo K3 Note, Lenovo A7010, Moto X Play, Xiaomi Mi 4i, Samsung Galaxy J7, and Nexus 6P. LeEco seems to have done pretty well for itself, especially when considering it’s a relatively new player in the Indian market segment.

Indian brands are notably absent from Antutu’s list. However, the benchmarking platform claims that local handset makers are actually very strong. It cites the example of Micromax which used a custom-ROM model for its Yu offshoot that is apparently doing well in the nation.
