Reliance Jio has officially commenced the delivery process of its highly anticipated JioPhone to the millions of customers who had pre-ordered the handset last month. Over 6 million people reportedly did so, with the company promising to hand the feature phone over to them by Diwali.
Diwali is in late October this year, so Reliance Jio is giving itself about a month to satisfy all its orders till date. This is a far cry from the 5 million which Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani had promised per week when he announced the device, but it’s to be expected given that this is only the first batch.
Reliance still hasn’t announced when the second round of booking will begin, so eager buyers will have to be patient and wait for things to settle down. Things should run more smoothly once the brand streamlines the pre-ordering and delivery process.
To be clear, Reliance won’t actually deliver the JioPhone to homes. Instead, people are supposed to receive an SMS telling them that their unit is ready and can be picked up from an authorized Jio store or Reliance Digital outlet. They’ll have to carry along the voucher number they got when they made the booking and the Rs 1000 balance left of the handset’s Rs 1500 price.

Individuals can check the status of their JioPhone by heading into the MyJio app or calling 18008908900. If using the former, they’ll have to tap on Manage Booking and enter their registered phone number and an OTP. The My Vouchers page should open up at this point and tell them when to expect delivery.
