Reliance Jio beats Vodafone, Airtel to top 4G speeds chart

Reliance Jio has once again topped the charts when it comes to 4G download speeds in India for the month of October. As per TRAI’s MySpeed app, the telecom operator averaged 19.6Mbps speeds during that time period.

While Reliance Jio did hold on to its number one spot, 19.6Mbps is not its best. It had recorded speeds of 21.9Mbps in September. There could be any number of reasons why this happened. Perhaps an increase in its user base caused the average speed to fall.

It’s also important to note that TRAI’s MySpeed app results are entirely crowd-based, so the numbers depend on the amount of people who tested their mobile network speeds that month. It’s not an entirely reliable method of gauging average rates as a consequence of this.

Still, it does provide a look into the kinds of speeds people are getting in India. Jio was followed by Vodafone on TRAI’s list at 9.3Mbps in October. The former offers nearly twice the speeds the latter does, but this could be attributed to more congestion in the latter’s network.

As per PTI, the third and fourth spots were taken up by Airtel and Idea at average speeds of 8.7Mbps and 8.6Mbps, correspondingly. The situation is a bit different when it comes to upload speeds. Here, Idea tops the rankings at 6.5Mbps, followed by Vodafone at 5.9Mbps, Jio at 4.3Mbps, and Airtel at 4Mbps.
