Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain has started teasing a new product via his Twitter account, offering up small hints as to what it can be. It’s unclear whether he’s talking about a new smartphone or some other kind of device.
The teasing began with a poster which featured the letter I in lowercase and three tricolor dots above it. Outlines of famous Indian landmarks can be seen behind it. The caption simply states that “i is coming soon!” and asks fans to guess what it is.
This was then followed up by photos and descriptions of Jain’s journey across Indian villages, noting that he had gained insights into the way people exist in rural India. He then said he would keep his fingers crossed for a new product which he believes would help change their lives.
He’s clearly talking about Xiaomi’s upcoming product, but there’s no indication of just what it will look like or do. Many are predicting that the Redmi Note 5 is the mystery device in question. The phone has been rumored for months and is due to make an appearance any day now.
While it’s certainly a frontrunner, there’s nothing about the Redmi Note 5 that suggests it has anything to do with the letter I. It’s possible the company is thinking of releasing a new phone with “i” in its name like the Mi 4i from a few years ago.

Some are speculating that Xiaomi is getting ready to join the feature phone market sector in India, perhaps with a 4G one like Reliance’s JioPhone. Whatever the case, we’ll find out the truth of the matter soon.
