YouTube may soon be beamed on to TV screens through DTH

Google doesn’t seem to run out of innovative ideas; the latest is the company’s plan to bring YouTube to television screens via DTH services in India. Nothing has been finalized as yet, and currently the search engine giant is in talks with leading direct-to-home cable providers in the country.

Francisco Varela, the Global Director of Platform Partnerships is currently in India and he has admitted that they are considering this option, reports Economic Times. The step seems to have been taken in order to increase the reach of Google’s video sharing service and who wouldn’t want to cash in on one of the fastest growing markets in the world?

No particular DTH services have been mentioned and the company representative wishes to get this going as soon as possible. He has chosen to keep mum over the issue and has refrained from letting out any other detail. But once the deal is sealed, the conglomerate and its partners will themselves make the announcement and we’ll let you know as soon as that happens.

A chunk of Google’s revenues come through YouTube and statistics reveal that the website’s earnings amounted to $50 billion in the year 2012. While merely 15 million Indian users visited YouTube back in 2011, the number has jumped to 55 million at the moment. And we are sure it will increase even further as more and more people take to the internet. As for DTH, there are close to 54 billion subscribers in the nation, says TRAI.

As soon as we get wind of some more information regarding the collaboration between DTH cable providers and YouTube, we’ll be back.
