Merissa Mayer, the new President and CEO of Yahoo! has been acquiring startup companies left, right and center and the latest to have been added to the list is QuikIO. You may already know that this is a video streaming application which calls itself the ‘FedEx of media files.’

The application is basically meant for streaming multimedia content or even sending digital data such as pictures, clippings, music, documents and more to iOS-based devices like iPhones and iPads. It even claims to offer live media conversion that should help making videos compatible with gadgets, they will be played on. The utility is available for the aforementioned devices as well as Windows and Mac OS X PCs.

Pando.com who broke the news regarding the acquisition, reported that the service will shut down on December 31, that is, less than 2 weeks from now. Hamish McKenzie from this website had emailed the CEO of QuikIO, Michael Chen to know about the issue and he learnt about the possession of the company when the email was redirected to a Yahoo! representative.

The application which will be shutting down, will not be revived by the tech giant and another thing that has come to light is that three of the executives from the startup company have been hired by Yahoo. The mail that was sent to users of the QuikIO application suggested some alternatives to the people that can be used instead of the utility.

In October, Merissa Mayer had acquired LookFlow and a number of other companies have also been taken under Yahoo!’s wing recently.
