Xiaomi Mi 5 will grab Snapdragon 820, 4GB RAM and fingerprint scanner: Report

The Mi 4 smartphone was launched back in July of last year and so, it’s safe to assume that the Xiaomi Mi 5 will also make its debut around the same time, right? Well, according to a new report online, this estimate would be almost half a year early.

It’s now speculated that the Xiaomi Mi 5 will go official sometime in November. Sure, that’s a long time away, but it does make sense pushing the launch back for multiple reasons. The simplest and most obvious one being that the company launched the Mi Note and Note Pro with tor-tier hardware just earlier this year.

And both phones are yet to go on sale in majority of markets. Also, PhoneArena is reporting based on information provided by leakster Leaksfky that the Xiaomi smartphone will be powered by the Snapdragon 820 processor. Qualcomm will start sampling the SOC in the second half of 2015 and we only expect to see devices based on the chip by the end of the year or early 2016.

We already know that the Mi 5 is expected to have a fingerprint reader onboard. And with the aforementioned chipset, the handset will be compatible with Qualcomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint identification system which bounces ultrasonic waves off a finger in order to pick up patterns and contours of a finger. This eliminates the need for additional sensors like what you’d find on the Galaxy S6 series and the iPhone.

Xiaomi Mi 5 specs overview:

– Android 5.1 Lollipop (MIUI 7 based on AOKP)
– 4GB LPDDR4 RAM
– 16MP/20MP main camera
– Snapdragon 820 processor
– USB-C port
– Fingerprint reader
– 5.1mm thick design

Now, while the information stated above looks to be completely believable, there have been multiple instances where the leakster has been inaccurate with the information provided. So be sure to take the details with a grain of salt.
