Videocon Telecom may acquire 2MHz additional spectrum in Punjab, MP, Chhattisgarh

At the upcoming spectrum auction in India, Videocon Telecom has decided to acquire additional 2MHz spectrum in three different states in the country. These include Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Punjab. The auctions will take place in the first quarter of 2014.

According to NDTV Gadgets, the service provider revealed this bit of information in a press statement in New Delhi. The company that forms a part of the Videocon Group is almost on the verge of reaching its peak capacity utilization and this could prove to be a hurdle when it comes to acquiring new customers. As of now, the operator lays claim on 4.4MHz spectrum in Punjab and as much as 5MHz of the same in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.

Arvind Bali, director and chief executive officer of Videocon Telecom, said that the service provider has been contemplating acquiring additional spectrum in these regions for a long time now. He also revealed that the conglomerate has business projections and growth plans in order for which they require the spectrum. This should also ensure better services for its customer base. And that’s not all, Videocon believes that the extra spectrum will be more feasible than deploying more sites.

Furthermore, this 2MHz spectrum will create incremental capacity, which according to Videocon, is ‘at least two times the existing capacity given trunking efficiency.’ In Punjab, it is a liberalized spectrum that will allow the network operator to introduce narrowband 4G LTE services too.

For refresher’s sake, Videocon Telecom has decided to bid for additional 2MHz spectrum in Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh and is even planning to roll out 4G networks in the near future.
