Ubuntu for Android to be disclosed at Mobile World Congress

Ubuntu For Android

Ubuntu for Android was recently announced by Canonical and it is all set to be displayed at the Mobile World Congress which will be held later this month. It is basically a software which converts Android smartphones running on multi core processors, into an Ubuntu desktop when connected to a monitor and keyboard.

Owners are able to operate Android on their smartphone and keep Ubuntu as the desktop, both running at the same time on a single device. This enables smooth access of messages, telephony, contacts and other such common services. Thus, all of the information and services can be shared between the Ubuntu and Android environments.

Canonical founder, Mark Shuttleworth, elaborated, “The desktop is the killer-app for quad-core phones in 2012. Ubuntu for Android transforms your high-end phone into your productive desktop, whenever you need it.”

This upcoming software turns the desktop monitor into an Ubuntu PC which comes with all the same features and functionalities that the original ones, which are used rampantly in enterprises and homes, boast of. The Ubuntu desktop is also capable of lending support to Windows applications with thin client and desktop virtualisation tools. Moreover, this could very well turn out to be a solution for reducing complication in the IT industry, by shifting most of the burden to a single device.

Details regarding the Ubuntu for Android price and availability will most probably be announced next week when it will be showcased at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
