Twitter ups character limit and revamps Quote Tweet

Twitter recently announced that it has redone its ‘Quote Tweet’ function for Apple iOS and web, a change users have been hankering after for a long time. You can now be more generous with your comments on interesting tweets as compared previously when the character limit was rather restricted.

The ‘Quote Tweet’ option is available under the ‘Retweet’ button. The new function does not use quotation marks, embeds the tweet instead of including it in your comments and therefore most importantly, allows you to add 116 characters above the original tweet.

The social networking company has two easy ways of sharing random tweets that you like from the ‘tweetosphere’. One is the ‘Retweet’ choice which allows you to basically repost the tweet on your profile so your followers can view it. Retweets have a disadvantage of not allowing you to insert your own comments.

This has been changed by the ‘Quote Tweet’ tab through which you can repost the tweet and at the same time, express your opinion about it. As you know, the older version of the option literally pasted the original quote with quotation marks into your comments bar, thereby limiting the characters to only what was left after including the quoted text.

Tweets can now conveniently be discussed with the larger comment limit, which is should have been the original intent of the function in the first place. It’s better late than never, we guess. This new feature is interesting as it can also be used as a threaded conversation with a long attachment of quotes.

Twitter, which is rumored to be a likely candidate for a takeover by Google, has launched the new ‘Quote Tweet’ functionality for iOS and web users. It will soon be offering the same to Android users too.
