Tata Docomo expands its 3G foothold in Kerala

Tata Docomo is looking to aggressively increase its network coverage in Kerala and has plans to install over 300 new mobile towers. It’s a part of the network operator’s 3G expansion project in the state and will cover all its major cities and districts.

The brand has already launched over 109 towers in the financial year across places such as Palakkad, Thalassery, Kasaragod, Kannur, Changanassery, Chavakkad, Cherthala and Varkala. It will add around 200 new 3G towers in the current quarter. Tata Docomo claims this initiative will enable the company to become one of the fastest growing 3G providers in the state.

The telecom operator has also announced an introductory offer for the new towns where the service has been introduced. First-time subscribers to the high-speed network can now get 1GB of data for Rs 189. In addition to that, pre-paid customers of Tata Docomo can dial code *141*000# through their phones to receive 100MB of free 3G data.

According to Kerala IT News, the company has beefed up its distribution channel by adding 128 distributors, 17000 touch points and 50 advanced branded retailers in the state. Ashok Ghose, MBU Head of Tata Docomo in the Karnataka and Kerala Circles, says the region is one the brand’s key markets in the south.

The increasing popularity of smartphones and their rate of penetration among the populace has resulted in higher demand for faster data speeds. Kerala is additionally one of the telecom company’s prime investment markets because of its rapidly increasing user base there.

Tata Docomo’s push towards 3G makes sense since a large section of Indian consumers still use 2G. With the arrival of 4G across the country, data costs will probably reduce further and make faster network speeds more accessible.
