Owners of the Sprint HTC EVO View 4G tablet can now look forward to an improved performance as the Android OS has been updated to Honeycomb from Gingerbread. Sprint has revealed that with this over-the-air upgrade, the HTC slate has undergone several changes for the better.

At the time of launch, the HTC EVO View 4G was powered by Android 2.3 and it will now run on Android 3.2 which is a tablet exclusive platform. One of the main changes that this update will bring about is the replacement of physical hard keys with onscreen soft keys.

According to the Sprint blog, users will not be able to access their personalized widgets or the customized screen setup that they would have created, as these factors do not sync with Honeycomb’s layout. While the update is downloading, the tablet will not be in a functional state and certain third-party apps may not be compatible with the structure of this new mobile platform.

The whole user interface and screen layout will apparently be revamped when this update is downloaded. Users would see their tablet going back to the out of the box homescreen layout and all personalized components such as wallpapers, widgets, application and shortcuts will be resized for enabling optimal viewing.

The blog further states that this update could be beneficial for business users as the new interface changes will allow the HTC Scribe digital pen to serve as a stylus for navigating through all the applications situated on the tablet. This could lead to improvements in the productivity of employees for executing tasks like filling out documents, checking boxes and selecting radio dials.

Users will be able to download the over-the-air Android Honeycomb update on the Sprint HTC EVO View 4G when it will be rolled out next year.
