The Sony Xperia Tablet S price and release date details are out and it appears to tag along the same tampered design seen in its predecessor. What’s more, this device is said to be water-resistant with an IPX-4 splash-proof ranking.

Based on the Ice Cream Sandwich platform, the slate draws power from an Nvidia Tegra 3 quad core processor with clock speeds of 1.4GHz. It shows off a 9.4-inch TFT LCD display that proffers resolutions of 1280 x 800 pixels. The device houses a 1MP front-facing camera and an 8MP rear-facing one for imaging purposes. Apart from 1GB of RAM, it provides internal storage options of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB as well as a microSD card slot for further memory expansion.

“We know that eighty-eight percent of tablet owners in the US are using their tablets in the living room, and are multi-tasking with their tablets while watching TV,” explained Phil Lubell, vice president of networked technologies and services at Sony Electronics. “We wanted to enhance that living room experience by providing interactive and useful features with the Xperia Tablet S.”

Apps like Watch Now, Reader, Scrapbook, Walkman, Album and Movies come pre-loaded with the slab. This PlayStation Mobile-certified slate comes with a ClearAudio+ mode which aims at enhancing the overall entertainment experience. It packs in a universal remote control along with an optional HDMI adapted. There is a built-in Guest Mode that allows users to create individual profiles for others. Powering up the device is a 6,000mAh battery that’s capable of delivering up to 10 hours of internet browsing or 12 hours of video playback.

As mentioned above, the Sony Xperia Tablet S price and release details are out. The 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions will retail for $399, $499 and $599, respectively. They will be available starting September 7 with pre-orders already on the roll.
