Sony Xperia SP to receive Android KitKat 4.4 update, Xperia T, TX, V, ZR being tested

Unlike most companies which are bringing the Android KitKat 4.4 update only to the high-end gadgets, Sony has decided to offer the new OS to mid-range devices like the Xperia SP. And that’s not all, phones like the Xperia T, TX, V and ZR are also being tested for the same.

No, Sony Mobile hasn’t gone on record to confirm this piece of news, but the guys over at Xperia Blog, spotted this on the company’s Support pages. The next version for the SP is Jelly Bean 4.3 and it will receive the latest platform in the future. As for the other handsets we have mentioned here, the official webpage says they are ‘under investigation’ for KitKat, but the said JB version is coming to them sometime in December.

Sony Xperia SP

Officially, the Japanese conglomerate has disclosed that the 4.4 OTA upgrade will be beamed out to tier I devices like the Xperia Z, Z1, ZL and Z Ultra as well as the Tablet Z. These, according to the company, are the first raft of Xperia products to get a taste of the chocolate-flavored OS. Other details regarding the update are yet to be revealed.

The Sony Xperia SP available in black, white and red shades flaunts a 4.6-inch touchscreen, an 8MP camera with LED flash and a VGA webcam. It is powered by a 1.7GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 processor and 1GB of RAM and runs Jelly Bean 4.1 out of the box.

As we said, there’s no specific date on which the Android KitKat update for the Sony Xperia SP or the other phones will be launched, but is should be fairly soon.
