Skype hits backs at Fring for withdrawal of iOS 4 support

Those who’ve been using Skype through Fring won’t be too happy to hear this tidbit. Fring’s official blog has declared that Skype will no longer be supported by its mobile phone application. This seems to have followed Fring’s withdrawal of support for video calls over Skype on iOS 4.

Skype supposedly threatened Fring with legal action post the sudden withdrawal of the Fring support for iOS 4 devices. In their own defense, Skype says that Fring was using Skype in a way that violated Skype’s API terms of Use and End User License Agreement

Avi Shechter, co-founder and CEO, Fring, shares, “We are disappointed that Skype, who once championed the cause of openness, is now attempting to muzzle competition, even to the detriment of its own users. We apologize to our users for the impact of Skype’s bullying and we will be happy to reconnect with Skype once Skype reverses their decision.

“We believe in communication openness and know that users will continue to vote with their mobile phones – opting for fring’s innovation, clarity, honesty and openness,” continued Avi.

Fring and Skype users are probably waited with bated breath for a reconciliation between both companies.
