eBay application for Android reaches international markets

eBay application AndroidWe’re certain avid shoppers couldn’t stop grinning when eBay launched a dedicated application for the iPhone back in 2008. Having moved to more mobile platforms since then, the application’s Android version is the latest to keep shoppers occupied. eBay reveals the availability of its Android application in international markets. The service which until now was available only in the United States now makes its way to Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom.

The innovative application will enable shopping buffs to buy, sell and check out new offerings right on their Android handsets. The application alerts users with the status of auctions and hard-to-find items, while also offering limited time bargains. Users can look forward to receiving popular items generally on discounted rates of more than 50% off on the original price courtesy the Daily Deals feature. The My eBay feature has also been updated and enables an easy interface usage for accessing the lists, watched items, bids and sales by sellers.

Steve Yankovich, vice president of mobile, eBay Inc, commented, “The popularity of eBay’s mobile shopping applications is quickly spreading across multiple geographies. More than half of eBay’s mobile gross merchandise volume comes from outside of the United States. As we seek to reduce friction in commerce, we are taking advantage of the unique features of each mobile platform. In the case of our Android app, we’re leveraging the Android’s voice search capabilities to make searching easier and faster.”

Buyers and sellers can now receive, reply and send messages and emails through My eBay. They can even post questions, reply to inquiries or keep a track of notifications. Shopping buffs can share items with their friends and family through Facebook, Twitter or email accounts. They can then give feedback for the items purchased or sold within the application.

Other than typed searching, this app allows users to perform speech-to-text voice search as well. Users holding a PayPal account can also purchase items directly while viewing varied items offered by a particular seller across eBay is also possible. In addition to this, the company last week annunciated the attainment of the RedLaser service and plans to roll out its barcode-scanning technology to the Android platform in the near future.

Users can grab the eBay application for free from the Android market.
