Scosche RDTX-PRO Radiation Detector And App

The RDTX-PRO radiation detector and app by Scosche was recently declared for the iPhone. The company plans to extend $10 from every purchase of the device towards charities which work for those affected by the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. They aim to collect a total of one million dollars for this good cause.

This Scosche RDTX-PRO is capable of operating without any calibration and is said to precisely identify gamma radiation above 60keV within +/- 5% accuracy. It can be used with the iPhone via the dock connection. Users can even use this compact device as a radiation alarm when not attached to their smartphone. In the form of a standalone alarm, the detector operates on an AA battery and can provide up to 96 hours of radiation detection.

“I was extremely impressed with the accuracy and performance of the RDTX-PRO from Scosche. The detector is as accurate as units that cost significantly more and is much smaller in size,” cited Julius James, Radiation Specialist of Fluke Global Calibration Laboratories.

Users will be informed to download the free accompanying radTEST app after they attach this device to their iPhone. The app presents users with a meter display that shows safe (green), elevated (yellow) or dangerous (red) radiation levels accurately. The results can be shared through Facebook, Twitter and Google Maps.

The Scosche RDTX-PRO radiation detector will be available at Synexx in Tokyo for a price of $329.99.
