Save the date: Apple event invite confirms September 10 iPhone launch

It is official people – Apple will unveil its next iPhone(s) at an event on September 10. The Cupertino giant has started sending out invites to the press which confirms the previously rumored date. The invite is fairly colorful which suggests that the upcoming smartphones will be presented in a range of new shades, most of which we’ve already seen in the wild.

According to The Verge, the event will take place at the company’s campus in Cupertino at 10AM PT. For the first time, the giant will be launching two smartphones on the same day. One is expected to be the successor to the iPhone 5, carrying the 5S moniker as tradition demands, and the other will be a cheaper alternative in the lineup sporting the 5C branding. There have been a lot of leaks on both devices over the past few months and the company seems to have pushed itself to stay ahead in the game. iOS 7 has received a major overhaul in design and the iPhone 5S is expected to come with a fingerprint sensor, a sapphire home button and in a gold-shaded version.

There’s nothing concrete on specifications, but you can expect it to sport an homebrewed A7 processor, a 13MP camera with dual LED flash and a design that’s similar to the current iPhone. The cheap iPhone, or 5C, will have a plastic body which encases a 4-inch display, 1GB of RAM, an 8MP camera, a 1.9MP webcam and a Qualcomm processor. What it might not feature is access to the virtual assistant Siri.

The September 10 event is not only going to be focused on the two iPhones, as Haswell based MacBook Pros have been tipped for launch on the same day. Also, if you’re expecting to see a couple of new iPads go official, disappointment could be just around the corner. Anyway, the tablets are probably going to arrive next month.
