Samsung’s affordable Galaxy Star Pro handset hits India for below Rs 7K

Samsung has yet another addition for the entry-level market in India, the Galaxy Star Pro, but the company is yet to officially announce the device. Well, as always, an online retailer has managed to get the device in stock and has wasted to time to offer the smartphone.

Currently, only HomeShop18 has done the needful by listing the smartphone as available on its website. The phone is priced at just Rs 6,989 and it said to be delivered in 3 working days. By the looks of it, the device appears to be the successor to the Galaxy Star which was unveiled globally along with the Pocket Neo and went official in the country back in May.

Like the majority of Samsung phones, the Galaxy Star Pro also takes a few design cues from the flagship S4. You get a similar looking handset with curved edges and a physical home button on the front that also houses a 4-inch touchscreen. The TFT panel delivers visuals in 480 x 800 pixels WVGA resolution. And while there’s no webcam, the rear has been fitted with a 2MP camera for snapping up stills and capturing videos.

The Galaxy Star Pro is loaded with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box and to power it up, a power efficient single core 1GHz Cortex A5 processor takes on the task. There’s also 512MB of RAM which is just enough for a smooth experience. Apart from these, the handset provides 4GB of system memory, a microSD card slot, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, dual SIM slots and a 1500mAh battery.

The hardware found on the Galaxy Star Pro and the recently launched Galaxy Trend are almost identical, making the former a cheaper choice.
