Striving to give the Qualcomm Snapdragon chip a run for its money, the all new Samsung Exynos 5 Dual has been unveiled. This SoC that tags along robust features has been specifically designed for upcoming Samsung mobile devices.

To start with, the chipset is expected to incorporate a WQXGA display, 3D graphics and a dual core processor among others. It extends support to a Cortex-A15 dual core CPU with 1.7GHz clock speeds that offers roughly 40% more DMIPS than Cortex-A9. The new chip drags along a range of APIs such as Halti and OpenGL ES 2.0 too.

Devices integrated with this SoC will be equipped with hardware capable of rendering a resolution of 1080p and 60fps shoot speeds. If that’s not enough, it will bundle in an Image Signal Processor as well as a high memory bandwidth.

“Since 2009, the mobile industry has experienced an unprecedented number of new trends. The current trend sees gadgets providing low-power mobility without compromising performance,” states a post on the official Samsung Exynos blog.

According to the South Korean manufacturer, this is the first time that a chipset integrates PHY transreceiver and eDP controller. This setting basically offers room to save power and space as well as bill of materials (BOM). What’s more, the chip makes space for 800MHz LPDDR3 RAM to deliver smooth multitasking.

The SoC has been designed with a view to enable fluid web-browsing, multitasking, 3D games and improved multimedia playback. Based on the 32-bit RISC CPU for slates, it has been crafted to comply with ‘mega trends.’

For now, the new tablets and smartphones to incorporate the Samsung Exynos 5 Dual have not received a mention.
