Saavn rolls out Windows 10 app

Windows 10 users can now download the newly launched Saavn app specifically designed for the platform and access it on their tablet or PC. Smartphone consumers will have to wait till the end of the year to try it out though, since the OS isn’t available for handsets yet.

Saavn will be a Windows universal application, delivering the same experience across all gadgets. Mahesh Narayanan, the brand’s Global Chief Operating Officer, cites this as the reason why the company waited till now to release the streaming music tool on Microsoft devices. According to him,
the service will have a much larger audience now
as the tech giant has a huge customer base.

In a PTI interview, he stated that Saavn has 17 million
monthly active users worldwide, with 14 million of
them from India. He hopes the number will reach
20 to 25 million by December and strongly believes
that starting the app on Windows will help the
company achieve that.

Narayanan claims streaming has tripled with the increase in smartphone sales and will grow as more people come online.

The new application is similar to the iOS and
Android versions of the service. The Windows
10 tool features live tiles, streams music
in 11 different languages and give users
access to over 10 million songs. It brings
with it a number of core Saavn functions
such as phonetic search and dynamic
bit-rate streaming.

Others such as social functions, radio, and
Saavn Pro will be released in the next couple
of months. The company got a capital boost
in July when it raised over a $100 million
(roughly Rs 634 crore) through a funding
round. The brand said the money would
be utilized to benefit long-term product
development and gain subscribers.

The Saavn app for Windows 10 is live
now and can be downloaded from
the Microsoft Store.
