Photo-sharing app Shoto rolled out for Android and iOS

A new photo-sharing app called Shoto has been launched worldwide, and is available now for Android and iOS users. The application can be downloaded in 120 countries, including India, and has support for languages like Hindi, French, Mandarin and Spanish.

Founded by Indian-origin entrepreneur Sachin Dev Duggal, Shoto makes getting photos from friends and family more convenient by organizing them all into one album. A Discovery feature uses a combination of its own algorithm and GPS to recognize which people were with a user at a place or event.

Individuals get notified when a friend has clicked new photos and allows them to send a request for the pictures. The snaps collected are organized into private albums based on time and location. They can be shared securely with anyone, even people who are not members of the Shoto community.

Other than instant sharing within the Shoto app, the images can be distributed through WhatsApp, email, Facebook and SMS. Users also have the ability to create an event and generate a unique code for an occasion. This password allows people to submit pictures and instantly make them accessible to all the members of the group.

Shoto App

People have complete control over who views their private images at all times. Shoto claims it never shares or uploads snaps without a user’s permission. The application additionally comes with an in-built photo editor to apply filters, crop, sharpen, whiten and generate memes. It even has a separate selfie editor tool and album.

The app should prove to be useful at events like weddings and birthday parties. It’ll probably have to face competition from similar photo-sharing applications like Facebook Moments. Shoto is live now and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and iTunes.
