Facebook Moments arrives in India with new video feature in tow

The Facebook Moments photo-sharing app has finally arrived in India two months after it was unveiled in the US and will be available for Android and iOS platforms. It’s gotten its first major update since then, with version 2.0 of the tool now able to create video collages.

It’s not a revolutionary addition by any means, but it’s a nifty little tool that might appeal to a number of people. The new Facebook Moments feature strings together a minimum of 6 images and makes an automatic montage out of them, complete with music. Users can customize the video by adding or removing pictures, and select background music from about a dozen different song options.

After personalizing the collage, the app lets consumers share it and tag friends. Moments is already synced with a user’s account on the social networking website and makes use of facial recognition technology to identify and group people together. One major drawback of the new feature is that the tech giant has restricted the distribution of videos only to Facebook for now.

The new version of the application comes with a few other minor upgrades. Users can create their own Moment by tapping the plus button at the top-right corner of the screen. Facebook claims it’s improved the performance of photo uploading and now allows people to view the progress it has made. The company has further translated the app into 34 languages to make it more accessible.

There’s no sign of any photo editing options yet, an unusual choice given it’s an image-based tool. With the addition of video montages, the application will compete against products like Flipagram and Google Photos, both of which similarly pair pictures with music. Facebook Moments version 2.0 is live now and can be downloaded for free through the Google Play Store and iTunes.
