Pantel Technologies to focus its attention on smartphones in India

Pantel Technologies has a number of tablets in the Penta T-Pad range to its credit, but soon the company will make its debut in the thriving smartphone market in India. Reportedly, it will be launching three handsets starting at merely Rs 7000. And if that’s not enough, the conglomerate is working on 4G gadgets too, that will be released in December this year.

Although the manufacturer of Android slates and accessories has been around for quite some time, it had decided to ignore the mobile phone segment until now. But the fierce competition between various companies may have tempted the tablet maker to try its luck and broaden its horizon. With this announcement, Pantel puts itself into the league of OEMs such as Panasonic and ZTE amongst a number of others who are trying to strike a chord with people in the subcontinent.

A report from PTI states that it will initially introduce three mobile devices that will refrain from digging a huge hole in users’ pockets. These will set them back by anywhere between Rs 7,000 and Rs 15,000. We have also found out that the gadgets will be here very soon and should be made available for purchase by the third week of next month.

Nothing much has been said about the specifications or features of these upcoming devices, but it has been confirmed that they will offer relatively fast internet access, thanks to support for 3G network speed. This company will also be jumping on to the Android bandwagon and will acquire Google’s certification for each of the phone. Sadly, they will fail to bring the latest version of the OS and prospective customers will have to make do with the Jelly Bean 4.1 platform which is not half bad.

We are assuming that they will adopt the candy bar form factor with a touchscreen plastered on the front panel. All the common features like a camera, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, a media player and more will naturally be included in these devices. What will surely be present in the handsets is a processor clocking in a maximum speed of 1GHz.

Pantel Technologies plans to sell over 50,000 smartphones per month and it claims to have moved around five lakh slates in the last one year. Like its tablets, the upcoming mobile devices will also be launched in collaboration with BSNL with data plans and offers.
