BSNL and Dimension Data join forces to launch cloud computing services

Recent developments have revealed that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited or BSNL, a state-owned operator has joined hands with Dimension Data, an ICT solution and service provider for introducing enterprise cloud services in India. It is said to be based on Managed Cloud Platform.

Details regarding the collaboration have come to the fore and it has been revealed that Dimension Data will be the one who will be making the investment for the said service. This company has put in around Rs 200 crore and BSNL is responsible for contributing physical assets which include space and power. According to R. K. Upadhayay the chairman and managing director of the government-owned firm, it has already commissioned as many as 9 data centers located across the nation.

The chairman also mentions that this initiative has been kicked off for the benefit of the people of the country. While it will prove to be of help to large enterprises, small businesses with financial limitations can also rely on it. And apart from this, the new offering will even assist the government itself. The union and state administration have the option of making use of this cloud service to ensure efficient e-governance.

Moreover, the BSNL CFA director, N.K. Gupta has revealed that this standardized cloud architecture brings its own set of benefits, interoperability being one of them. The involved companies have signed an agreement for a span of 10 years for now, but they may extend it in the future. They are currently focusing their attention towards formulating a market strategy for their new venture. Also, we understand that the basis of this particular partnership is a revenue-sharing model.

The state-owned company boasts of robust communication networks as well as a strong IT infrastructure. It has as many as 38,000 digital telephone exchanges that are spread across India. This network provider seems to have pinned down its hopes on this cloud service as it is aiming towards achieving a pretty ambitious 25 percent growth in the enterprise business during this fiscal year itself.

As for the guys over at Dimension Data, they believe that in addition to cloud computing, the new initiative is likely to tag along a number of other things such as managed collocation, hosting and IT services. Customers can expect it to take care of cost and risk optimizations as well.

As many as 15 companies have already collaborated with BSNL and Dimension Data for their cloud computing services.
