Opera Mini arrives for Grameenphone users in Bangladesh

The service provider has now released a co-branded version of Opera Mini for its users in Bangladesh. The Opera Mini web browser for mobile handsets is applicable to more than 3000 different handsets ranging from basic feature phones to high-end smartphones.

Grameenphone has carved a niche of its own in exhibiting a variety of products and services in Bangladesh, including GSM technology. Not only that, the company’s network EDGE/GPRS has been relished by more than two million active Internet subscribers. Inclusion of the Opera Mini web browser within devices of those residing in Bangladesh was possible due to its global agreement with Opera Software.

Claimed to be the most popular web browser in the world, the Opera Mini browser touts of over 90 million users every month. Its servers compress webpages up to 90 percent of their original size prior to sending them over the phone. Since the data transferred is smaller, pages arrive at a much faster speed, simultaneously reducing cost.

Handsets with the Opera Mini browser will have access to free Internet and data services for one week after the download. The latest Opera Mini version customized for mobile phones can be downloaded by users in the country by simply sending an SMS ‘Opera’ to 5000.
