After months of anticipation and numerous leaks, the OnePlus 2 ‘2016 flagship killer’ was unveiled officially by the company Tuesday morning in a virtual reality event. For fans in India, the handset will sell exclusively on the country-specific Amazon website starting from August 11 and will cost Rs 24999 for the 64GB model and Rs 22999 for the 16GB one.
The latter will be available later this year. The only difference between them is in terms of RAM, with the 64GB OnePlus 2 having 4GB and the other having 2GB. Both are more pricey than their predecessors, but still come under the $450 mark the company’s CEO had promised earlier. Specifications-wise, the device continues its hit formula of high-end specs at a mid-range cost.
The 4G-enabled OnePlus handset is enclosed within a magnesium aluminum alloy frame and has a 5.5-inch IPS LCD In-cell full HD screen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. Under the hood, it has a powerful 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC clocked at 1.8GHz and an Adreno 430 GPU. It’s backed by a 3300mAh battery and runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop-based OxygenOS.
The 13MP main lens of the OnePlus 2 has been blessed with dual-LED flash, optical image stabilization and laser auto focus, which can supposedly do its magic in 0.2 seconds. Selfies can be taken through the 5MP front camera and are promised to be distortion-free. The dual-SIM device sports a fingerprint scanner with the ability to store up to 5 prints and unlocks the smartphone within 0.5 seconds.
The OnePlus phone also features USB Type-C technology, gesture-based controls and a SwiftKey Keyboard. A new tool called App Permissions allows for blocking applications from accessing information like locations or contacts. A slider on the side panel enables the user to switch between three alert settings: No Interruptions, Priority Interruptions and All Notifications.

The OnePlus 2 comes in a Sandstone Black back cover which can be changed using the company’s new StyleSwap system. The other options available are Bamboo, Black Apricot, Rosewood and Kevlar. The phone has yet to get a landing page on Amazon India.
