The Micromax Canvas Xpress 2 was launched yesterday and will be available for Rs 5999 through Flipkart on August 4. As is the norm for phones nowadays, it will be sold via a flash sale. Registrations for it have started and will continue till August 3.
The company is touting the Micromax Canvas Xpress 2 as the cheapest octa-core handset in the country, having provided the device with a 1.4GHz MediaTek MT6592M SoC. It has also equipped the smartphone’s audio with Cirrus Logic Wolfson Stereo DAC, outputted through bottom-facing speakers to prevent the sound muffling usually observed in devices of its class.
The dual-SIM Canvas Xpress 2 otherwise has standard specs for its price bracket. It has a 5-inch IPS 720p display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass and contains Android KitKat 4.4.2, which can be upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop. The handset holds 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory, expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card.

Camera capabilities consist of a 13MP autofocus rear camera with dual-LED flash and a 2MP fixed-focus front snapper. The Micromax smartphone runs on a 2500mAh battery which reportedly delivers up to 9 hours of talk time and 393 hours of standby time. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and microUSB 2.0.

The Canvas Xpress 2 will compete with other octa-core entry-level devices such as the Yureka Plus. The 4G–ready Yu handset was launched last week for Rs 9999 and features a 5.5-inch 1080p screen, a 64-bit Snapdragon 615 SoC, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of ROM.
