OmniVision Logo After providing iPhone 4 owners with the ability to capture crisp images, OmniVision is at it yet again. The company has officially unveiled its latest 12.6MP RAW CMOS image sensor dubbed OV12825 for advanced mobile applications.

The OV12825 will be effectively able to snap high resolution still images and shoot 1080p HD videos at 60fps coupled with electronic image stabilization (EIS). This new offering is manufactured on 1.4micron OmniBSI pixel architecture to provide enhanced pixel performance as well as low-light sensitivity of 650 mV/ (lux-sec).

Vinoo Margasahayam, product marketing manager at OmniVision, expressed, “Driven by increasing consumer expectations, the camera phone market continues to demand progressively higher resolutions with full convergence of still photography and quality HD video.”

“The OV12825 answers those demands by providing a high-performance mobile imaging experience. With its impressive array of features and capabilities, this no-compromise CMOS image sensor provides an excellent solution for current and next-generation phones,” continued Margasahayam.

The image sensor also proffers an exceptional binning ability that further improves its sensitivity in 1080p HD video mode at 60fps and supplies additional pixels for EIS. It has an array of 4,224 x 3,000 OmniBSI pixels operating at 15fps in full resolution and incorporates 4-lane MIPI, LVDS and DVP interfaces. All these features are touted to produce an all round better performance needed by most camera handset applications.

The OV1282512.6MP RAW CMOA image sensor is currently being offered to interested companies in sample quantities, while volume production is anticipated to kickstart in Q2 of 2011.
