Nokia stops Lumia 2520 tablet sales in Europe over electric shock scare

Nokia has halted sales of its Lumia 2520 tablet in Europe over fears of the accompanying charger posing electric shock risks to users. The company has stopped selling the device in certain parts of the aforementioned region possibly after identifying the particular batch of faulty AC-300 chargers and tracing it to the sales channels it was heading towards along with Lumia 2520 units.

The issue has to do with the exchangeable plug which is covered by a plastic material. If the plastic becomes loose and separates from the part being protected, then certain internal components could give an electric shock to the person who touches them when the charger’s plugged into a live socket.

Jo Harlow, EVP of Smart Devices at Nokia, has announced that there have been no confirmed reports of consumers having suffered a shock as yet. Did we hear ‘lawsuit’ anyway? The company says we’re looking at a ‘potential product quality issue’ and has been careful to note that the Lumia 2520 AC-300 charger is manufactured by a third-party supplier.

Customers in the UK, Austria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Russia and Switzerland have been advised to stop using the charger and wait for further updates about availability of a replacement unit. Nokia has also suspended sales of the Lumia 2520 travel charger accessory in the countries mentioned above as well as the US.
