Nokia N9 PR1.2 Update 01

We all heard about the Nokia N9 PR1.2 update rollout that was announced a couple of weeks ago. But for those who missed out on why or how this is significant for the handset, its camera and owners, here is a little glimpse at the delectable details.

The highlighted feature introduced through this overhaul is incorporated, automated face recognition, which is claimed to be a first for any smartphone. Once the new version of the software is downloaded, this can be enabled through the gallery in application settings. Users will now also be able to tag faces in photos by finding names from contact lists. Furthermore, after the same person is tagged more than a couple of times, the handset will remember the setting and subsequently prompt users with the name.

“These improvements have been in the works for a while and the whole team is really passionate about the Nokia N9. We wanted people to have a great camera experience, and while there were many challenges, we overcame them and are confident people will enjoy these updates,” conveyed Jens Wilke, Camera Program Manager for Nokia through a recent post on the official Nokia Conversations blog.

The PR1.2 upgrade is introducing some spanking new attributes as well. Firstly, the snapper should now be able to offer three frames per second at 5.5 megapixels with zero shutter lag. Using this, photographers can click nine images in three seconds by long-pressing the capture button. What’s more, the camera grid function is expected to help with aligning stationary objects properly.

Apart from the Nokia N9 PR1.2 update, the company has also announced FCam with HDR. The FCam library is already available for the aforementioned handset.
