New iPad might have heating issues

New iPad Heating 01

A few days after the release of the new iPad, there appear to be reports about the heating up of its chassis. Apparently, such issues have also been noticed in the original iPad and the second generation edition of this Apple slate.

Comments on the Apple Support Communities Discussions page suggest that several users are experiencing problems where the device gets heated up. While some remark that it gets warm, others have used terms like ‘overheated’ to describe the issue. A few comments also reveal that a specific spot on the lower left side (when the iPad is held in portrait mode) is more prone to heating up as compared to the entire body.

According to a recent post on CNET regarding this situation, cases where the gadget shuts itself down with only a popup message saying something along the lines of ‘iPad needs to cool down’ have occurred. Discussions on the MacRumors forum have also been raising this bother. Some additions to these conversations and posts are even talking about the tablet getting warmer when used under direct sunlight, which shouldn’t look like much of a puzzler in case of any device.

The reasons for this problem are speculated to be the new chip with its quad core GPU and larger battery, as compared to its predecessor. While the iPad 2 used an A5 processor, its third generation version shows off an A5X CPU. Furthermore, even with the promise of offering an enhanced performance overall, the new iPad maintains a battery life of roughly 10 hours, hinting at the use of a bigger battery.

There is yet no official word on the new iPad heating issue from Apple.
