Navigon announces updated navigation apps for smartphones

Navigon App Updated Navigon AG has developed the second generation of its navigation apps while also announcing updates for its first release of the same. Along with this, it has also brought out the news of a similar app being developed for Windows Phone 7. Recently, we also saw an iPhone navigation app specially designed for select models of cars.

The new versions offer an enhanced user interface, better map management and update capabilities and other new features. The additional features include Zagat’s ratings and reviews as an in-app purchase, detailed travel guides and a cockpit function displaying current driving data which allows monitoring of driving behaviors.

“Over the last two years, we’ve continuously added new features to our navigation apps, transforming them into the most feature-rich smartphone GPS apps available. For our new generation of apps, we went back to the drawing board to see how we could elevate smartphone navigation to the next level. Feedback from our users suggests that a better way to manage and update maps and a more intuitive user interface are top priorities,” explained Gerhard Mayr, vice-president of worldwide mobile phones and new markets, Navigon.

With the new map management, users are allowed to download one region of desire at a time, leaving the rest for later. This also helps memory organization of the device. Also, quarterly map updates from Navigon FreshMaps are offered, upon the payment of a one-time fee. The updated version also includes different user interfaces for every operating system.

The new versions of Navigon navigation apps will be available for download this fall. Current users on iOS and Android operating system can also receive free upgrades for their existing versions. The Windows version of the Navigon navigation app is expected to release later this year.
