The Nokia N9 smartphone has been made available in Australia, after its recent announcement in the second half of June, along with its accessories that were also introduced. It will be carried by Optus, Telstra, and Vodafone as its network operators and will be available through all major retail outlets.

The N9 runs on the MeeGo OS and is a full touch or an all-screen smartphone, specifically described so because it doesn’t even have a home button. Instead, the 3.9-inch AMOLED touchscreen with ClearBlack display allows swiping and pinching to take users through the functions, apps and the homescreen. The use of the ClearBlack display makes the colors look better as it intensifies the color of the dark bits.

“The Nokia N9 is where form meets function- this is a sleek, stylish and highly intuitive smartphone, offering customers a device that looks as good as it feels. The N9 will be Nokia’s flagship device for 2011 with good reason, and we are thrilled to be delivering the N9 to our customers on Australia’s best value mobile plan range, Vodafone Infinite,” expressed Ross Parker, general manager of Devices and Pricing at Vodafone.

Three homescreen options are provided for users to select their preference from apps, socialize and multitask. The app dominated screen is designed to flaunt either four or nine apps which are currently or mostly in use. The screen personalized for socializing allows quick access to social networking, calling, texting and calendar. The third screen provides access to all the available apps in the handset.

Apart from this, the device sports an 8MP autofocus camera with Carl Zeiss lens and large lens aperture. It allows sharing content with another device by just a tap, enabled by NFC. Also, the color of the casing is blended in such a manner that it is said to scratch-proof by Nokia.

The Full touch Nokia N9 smartphone will be available in 16GB and 64GB variants. Of these, the 64GB variant will be available in only black whereas, the shades like black, blue and pink are offered in the other one. The smartphone can be grabbed from any major retail outlet for a price of AUD$799, starting October 2011.
