Motorola Moto X (2nd Gen) starts receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow in India

Users of the Motorola Moto X (2nd Gen) in India have begun receiving the update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The upgrade is approximately 884MB in size and is being delivered over-the-air.

The Motorola Moto X (2nd Gen) was launched back in September last year at Rs 31999. It’s been the subject of numerous price cuts since then, and is now retailing for Rs 14999. The handset ran on Android 4.4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box. The company had earlier confirmed it was beaming out Android 6.0 Marshmallow to owners in Asia, Canada, Europe and Latin America.

As per Android Central, Motorola recommends owners of the phone to download the update through a high-speed connection or Wi-Fi. They should also plug in their device to ensure the battery of their device doesn’t get depleted. In a blog post, the company elaborated on what specific changes the upgrade would bring.

For instance, the Moto X (2nd Gen) will no longer have Moto Enhancements tools like Moto Assist. Motorola is dropping the feature in order to complement Android 6.0 instead of competing with it. The new software has its own Do Not Disturb option under the Sound and Notification settings, which makes sure the user doesn’t get distracted while sleeping or working.

A quick look at the specifications of the Motorola Moto X (2nd Gen):

– OS: Android 4.4.4 KitKat upgradable to Marshmallow
– Processor: 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801
– Display: 5.2-inch super AMOLED, 1080p
– Space: 16GB/32GB
– RAM: 2GB
– Battery: 2300mAh
– Camera: 13MP rear, 2MP front
– Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS

Motorola Migrate is also getting the axe since Android Marshmallow comes with its own functions for backing up phone data. The manufacturer plans to permanently end the tool and will not preload it within its handsets in the future. The Google Chrome extension in Motorola Connect is set to be retired as well, as many similar services have popped on Google Play.

Furthermore, individuals don’t actively use SMSes to communicate anymore, making use of OTT messaging apps instead. Keeping that in mind, the company has decided to send Connect to its grave instead of letting it take up space in the Motorola Moto X (2nd Gen).
