Mobiles.co.uk: 2010 is the Year of the Smartphone

Mobiles co uk Logo Beyond any doubt, smartphones have made users’ lives easier by offering them more advanced computing ability and connectivity than a basic feature phone. With such increasing popularity, the year 2010 is proving to be at its peak for smartphones in the mobile phone industry, reveals Mobiles.co.uk. These phones run on complete operating system software that provides a platform for application developers.

Smartphones enable users to enjoy entertainment while on the move, run multiple applications at a time, and customize their phones in addition to making calls and texting. Dedicated platforms like Windows Mobile or Google Android allow users to download third party apps and experience advanced PC-like abilities such as editing office documents, presentation, spreadsheets and more.

Market research companies have carried out several polls and surveys certifying that the smartphone market is leading the way. With new models releasing every month from Android devices like HTC desire and Sony Ericsson Experia X10 to messaging based Blackberrys like the Curve 8520 and the 9700 Bold 2, the smartphone market seems to be piling out.

The Year 2010 is also viewing the decrease in prices of smartphones with tariffs ranging from as little as GBP15 per month on networks like Orange and Vodafone. Manufacturers seem to have realized the declining pricing trend and are releasing their products accordingly, appealing to the masses with low end alternatives.

The largest contributor to the increasing Smartphone range however remains Apple and their award-winning iPhone. The iPhone 3G and faster 3GS iPhones were the first foray into mobile phones for the American based technology companies. Apart from this, Apple’s huge and adoring Apple App Store and user-friendly operating system ensured iPhone was the ‘must-have’ phone of the past two years.

Apple’s next model is expected to roll out in June with HD video recording and a higher megapixel camera. With this, Apple will most probably continue ruling the smartphone market.
