Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950 XL flagship Windows 10 phones coming soon

Forget the confusing stories you’ve heard about the Microsoft Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL Windows 10 phones so far, and read this latest list of features they’re rumored to contain. It’ll be so much simpler than sifting through all the unofficial news. First off, the handsets are expected to come with eye scanning software and full pen stylus support.

Remember how Microsoft went directly to Windows 10 and totally ignored the idea of calling the OS Windows 9? Well, the company might do some number skipping with the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL too just to make a statement about how advanced its upcoming smartphones will be. So there may not be a Lumia 940 and 940 XL at all. We’ll have to wait until November at least to find out more.

Dubbed Talkman, the Lumia 950 is anticipated to have a 5.2-inch 1440 x 2560p OLED screen, 3GB RAM, a hexa core Snapdragon 808 processor, a 20MP PureView camera on the rear, a 5MP webcam, a 3000mAh removable battery, 32GB internal memory and microSD card support. The Cityman (Lumia 950 XL) is said to come with a 5.7-inch 1440 x 2560p OLED display, 3GB RAM, an octa core Snapdragon 810 chip, a 20MP main PureView lens (triple LED flash), a 5MP front lens, a 3300mAh removable power house and 32GB expandable memory.

The Lumia phones will arrive with Windows 10 installed. They are likely to be made available in two color options of black and white. Other suspected specifications include a USB Type-C port and Qi wireless charging via an accompanying case. The big deal about the forthcoming devices is the eye scanning function which works with Microsoft’s Windows Hello biometric authentication. The technology can replace your PIN or password by scanning your face, iris or fingerprint to enable you to unlock your gadget.

Apparently, a stylus similar to the one used by the Surface tablet may be sold along with both, or just the larger phone. The images posted here are mock-ups by Windows Central, imagining what the series will look like. There’s no definite word on the launch date of the Microsoft Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. But they are allegedly going to show up in October or November 2015.
