Android 4.0 won’t look the same on LG phones any more, considering that the company will layer it with the LG Optimus UI 3.0. This skin brings with it a horde of features like unlock functions, Quick Memo and more that are aimed at making the ICS experience smooth and intuitive.

The developers have primarily focused on ease of use and speed while creating the aforesaid software. The Quick Memo tool mentioned above enables handset owners to scribble notes on the screen with a finger. This feature should come into play especially while social networking, messaging and sending mails.

“With smartphone hardware becoming more and more similar, it’s important for manufacturers to differentiate their products from the competition through the user interface. Both carriers and customers tell us that they want LG phones to look and feel unique and the UI plays a big part in that. LG is really going to push the boundaries of what is possible in user interfaces starting with Optimus UI 3.0,” commented Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.

Users can now unlock their phones by randomly swiping their fingers across the screen. A new feature dubbed Pattern Lock presets functions that are employed the most and these get automatically activated after the smartphone is unlocked. The LG Optimus UI 3.0 includes Voice Shutter that enables capturing snaps by simply assigning voice commands. A neat little camera function enables selection of the best shot among all the images taken as well as the one captured right before the shutter control is depressed.

Another attribute called Icon Customizer permits users to personalize their devices by using their own images as icons for shortcuts to various functions. The menu will now include a Download section for proper management of content. For confused users, there will be a simpler version of the interface that organizes all the major apps to provide convenient access to them.

The LG Optimus UI 3.0 with Android 4.0 will officially break cover on the Optimus LTE II that’s scheduled to launch in Korea this week, and on the Optimus 4X HD.
