Lenovo Vibe S1 now getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow update in India

The Lenovo Vibe S1 has begun getting the update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow in India, less than a week after the Vibe P1 started receiving the upgrade. The news was confirmed by the brand’s local head of product and marketing Anuj Sharma in a post on his Twitter page.

To recall, the Lenovo Vibe S1 first hit the scene in India back in November running Android 5.0 Lollipop. The selfie-centric phone was priced at Rs 15999 initially, but has since undergone a Rs 3000 price cut. It now retails for Rs 12999 over at Amazon India.

The sure-shot upgrade to Android 6.0 Marshmallow should serve to make the Lenovo device more appealing to interested buyers now that it’s also become cheaper. Current owners of the handset can check if they’ve gotten the update by heading to Settings. It weighs in at 1.6GB, so it’s advisable to download the software over Wi-Fi.

Like the A7000 before it, the upgrade page for the Vibe S1 additionally warns users to make sure they’ve backed up any data stored on their memory card as Marshmallow alters its properties. If they don’t, any content kept safe in the SD card may disappear after the update process.

Here’s a rapid run-down of the main specs of the Lenovo Vibe S1:
