Kernel source for Samsung Galaxy S II AT&T version revealed

Samsung Galaxy S II Sourcecode

Around one and a half week ahead of its release, Samsung has uncovered the kernel source for the AT&T version of its Galaxy S II smartphone. Introduced in the United States through three network carriers, the AT&T version will be known as the Samsung Impulse 4G.

This development about the source code was revealed by AndroidCentral. Samsung had released the kernel source for the recently unveiled Sprint Epic 4G Touch precisely on the day it was made available. However, this early unveiling for the Impulse 4G is expected to give a head start to developers.

With this, the launch date for the Samsung Impulse 4G also appears to have been postponed. Earlier expected to hit markets on September 18, potential customers will now have to wait till the second of next month. Reportedly, AT&T was also bringing out the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play 4G on the same date as the earlier announcement of the Galaxy S II.

Although the source code is now out in the open, certain significant files needed to build features like the TouchWiz are still being kept under wraps. Even if it shouldn’t make a direct difference to regular users, developers may have a treat with this early exposure and it could give them ample time for personalization.

With the kernel source out for the AT&T version of the Samsung Galaxy S II, developers may also be looking forward to the T-Mobile code. The Samsung Impulse 4G will be made available for a price of $200.
