The new iPod touch fifth generation was revealed in all its high spirits at the Apple event in San Francisco. So all those rumors about the launch occasion were indeed true. This was where the iPhone 5 and iPod nano seventh generation were unveiled too.

Coming to the refreshed iPod touch, it sports a 4-inch Retina display and it is equipped with the company’s dual core A5 chipset. It is embedded with a 5MP iSight camera on the back panel and it records clips at 1080p. This snapper also tags along attributes such as flash, face detection, image stabilization and panorama. This feature enables capturing panoramic images when users simply swing the sensor around to shoot landscapes.

Powered by iOS 6, this piece of hardware is claimed to be the thinnest touch ever and it is encapsulated within a light anodized aluminum design. The company stresses that it’s the first time the music player will be made available in 5 different hues like blue, silver, pink and yellow and in combinations such as black and slate as well as white and silver.

“With over 350 million sold, iPod is the world’s most popular and beloved music player. Music lovers may have a difficult time deciding between the reinvented iPod nano, the thinnest iPod ever, and the all-new iPod touch with its stunning 4-inch Retina display, 5 megapixel iSight camera and ultra-thin design—both in beautiful new colors,” remarked Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

On the software front, the iPod touch fifth generation extends support to the personal assistant, Siri, that is compatible with many languages and provides access to information regarding places, sports scores and others through voice recognition technology. Principal iOS attributes such as iMessage, FaceTime, Game Center and Mail stay in place. The gadget also arrives with built-in Facebook integration along with the option of posting right from Siri, while potential users can also avail of Shared Photo Streams through iCloud.

Content covering images, audio, video and applications can be streamed on to large screen TVs using the AirPlay Mirroring feature. The App Store provides access to a host of applications covering books, entertainment, gaming and a lot more. For connectivity purposes, Cupertino has included a new Lightning connector which is compact and more durable than that seen in the earlier version.

The 32GB iPod touch fifth generation price is marked at $299, while the 64GB variant is tagged at $399. It will be up for pre-order through Apple Online Store on September 14, that’s tomorrow. It is expected to ship starting from October via Apple stores, authorized resellers and the official website.
