Nokia City Lens app for Windows Phone out

Leaving behind the beta tag, Nokia City Lens now arrives as a standalone utility in the Windows Phone Marketplace. This location-based augmented reality application uses the phone’s camera viewfinder to provide a deeper idea of buildings and interesting places located in the vicinity.

Considering that it provides an augmented reality view, many details that are not visible to the naked eye can be seen conveniently using the app. The tool mitigates the need to look up the surrounding POI on the internet as the smartphone should be enough to render the required information. It drags along an added bunch of attributes when coupled with the Windows Phone 8 operating system.

Location-based App

“Along with that, we have introduced Nokia City Lens last May with a beta program to collect your precious feedback and your improvement suggestions. Your response has been overwhelmingly positive and we are proud to have officially released our augmented reality app to the Windows Phone Marketplace for Nokia Lumia 900, Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 710. And we also have a specific version for the newest Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820 in the works,” states a post on the official Nokia Conversations blog.

Talking about the same application for the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820, it supports 3D icons layout for a better view of locations. Besides, users can filter search results to view only the places that are within their sight or those that are out of reach, as per personal preference. To be quickly accessible in both landscape and portrait formats, those wielding any of the latest Lumia devices can pin to begin any category tile and even customize searches.
