Samsung usually takes much time in delivering Android updates for its fleet of devices, but with the Galaxy S4, it has seemingly defied its old habit. Just as news about its global model having received its Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update was sinking in, we have word that Indian devices (I9500) are now receiving the same software upgrade as well.

Equipped with support for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch and other important features, this update for the Samsung Galaxy S4 is rolling out in phases via Kies and as an over-the-air download. As is being reported by AndroidOS, the software is 658MB in size, so a decent Wi-Fi connection is recommended.

The site has also revealed the changes that will be brought about by the new software. Apart from the ability to support the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, this Android 4.3 update for the device even features improved performance in terms of graphics, multimedia and Bluetooth.

This has of course been made possible by Google’s decision to include OpenGL ES 3.0 and Bluetooth Smart support in this version of the Android OS. Furthermore, Samsung Knox for consumers also finds its way into the update, apart from user interface adjustments and certain security enhancements.

Samsung had spoken about the Android 4.3 update for the Galaxy S4 at the unveiling event of the Note 3 in September. The company had promised that the software will be rolling out for the device in October, and it has definitely managed to keep its word this time around.

Apart from the Samsung Galaxy S4, the S3 and the Note 2 are also slated to receive their very own 4.3 updates soon.
