Next breakthrough app will originate from India, says Microsoft

Microsoft is totally convinced that some enterprising mind from India will give us the next breakthrough app considering that over 10% of applications are being built by developers from this country. The vote of confidence was sounded by Joseph Landes, General Manager, DPE – Microsoft India, in an interview at the company’s annual BUILD conference which is currently being held in San Francisco, CA.

Of course, this is not the first time that Microsoft has shown faith in India’s supply of talented IT folks. The company opened a development center in Hyderabad in 1999, it’s largest such establishment apart from the one at its headquarters in Redmond, Washington. The Financial Express points to Landes’ statements about the company’s focus on the nation as one of its budding resources and markets at the same time.

Microsoft more keen on India than US:

Many of its newest products including certain Nokia phones are being released in India before they hit US shelves. But this quote may be hiding the fact that the country is a more willing taker for budget devices such as the Nokia X and the Asha-branded devices. The company has yet to impress in the high-end smartphone segment and Windows Phone is not likely to be the platform to carry it there.

But leaving aside the aforementioned comments, Landes says that India has a lot of software developers. This means there’s a high chance that the next big thing in apps could come from here. Additionally, Microsoft is trying to gain a more steady footing in the nation and is offering Windows Phone licenses for free in this region. Lava, Karbonn and Micromax have already said they’re game for this.
