HTC Hero Handset We had earlier heard that HTC is planning to give its handset an Android 2.0 update. And now Engadget reports that HTC has confirmed that the Hero will get an Android 2.0 update. Also known as the Eclair, this Android 2.0 update claims to incorporate various advanced features in the Android based devices.

HTC has confirmed that at present it is planning to give the HTC Hero an Android 2.0 update. The company also affirmed that it is planning to extend this update to all versions of the Hero via its partners like Sprint.

Reportedly, HTC quoted, “Yes, we are working on an Eclair update for the HTC Hero. Because Eclair is a significantly enhanced release, it will require some time to update Sense for this new version of the Android OS. Please be patient while we work to provide you with a tightly integrated experience like the one you are already enjoying on your Hero.”

Apparently, the recently launched Android Eclair will incorporate support for multiple e-mail address as well as native Microsoft Exchange compatibility in the Hero. The Eclair will also update the web browser to include HTML5-capability. It will also incorporate support for multitouch inputs like double-tap zooming and Bluetooth 2.1.

There is no official word as to when this update will be made available. But considering the confirmation from the company, the update should be made available pretty soon.
