GTA 5 Sales Break 165 Million Milestone Following

GTA 5

GTA 5 continues its record-breaking spree, even as the game has now breached the 165 million mark in terms of lifetime sales. The latest boost in these numbers comes from the release of the native PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions.

Owners of the previous-gen versions can pay a small fee to upgrade their GTA 5 copies for their new consoles. And moreover, GTA Online is available for free until June 14 on the PS5 so if you’re thinking of creating a crew and getting back into the game, now’s the best time. You do need a PS Plus subscription to take advantage of this offer though.

The 165 million figure refers to copies of GTA 5 that have been sold up to March 31, 2022. This means, that 5 million more units were sold since Take-Two Interactive last revealed the numbers back in February this year.

The entire GTA series has now sold over 375 million copies and this means Grand Theft Auto 5 is responsible for 44 percent of the series’ all-time sales. This is not surprising since the game has been around since 2013 and is kept fresh by the regular addition of new content in the GTA Online space.

That being said, GTA 6 has been confirmed to be in development by Rockstar Games but there’s no official info about its release window or its setting. Popular leakster Tom Henderson has said that it will be set in modern-day Vice City, which is the series’s take on Miami. It’s also being said to feature an evolving map system with periodic releases of new chunks.

But with GTA 5 still making massive contributions to the revenues of Take-Two Interactive and with GTA Online going stronger than ever, don’t expect the firm to rush with the release of GTA 6.
